Adventures in Natural Hair Care.
I don’t normally talk about beauty regimens, because frankly I don’t enjoy reading about them myself. So take my word for it, I’m excited about my latest discovery. I recently tried the “no-poo method” ( referring to shampoo, It’s the most unfortunate title)
In short, washing your hair everyday strips your hair of its natural oils. On top of that, using shampoos with harsh chemicals and sulfates cause your hair to stimulate more oil production than it would make naturally. This causes the “need” to shampoo your hair more often. Its like your shampoo is a drug and your hair is an addict. So I replaced my shampoo with a 1 tbs baking soda and 1 cup water mixture and my conditioner with 1 tbs Organic Apple cider vinegar and 1 cup water mixture. I washed my hair every 2 days. The results? Well, my hair didn’t explode like diet coke and mentos and I don’t smell like a jar of pickles.
1. The first couple of weeks were kinda gross. This is because your drug addicted hair is in a kind of withdrawal, its producing more oils than ever. Just bear through it because I just reached the tipping point and like magic, my hair has never looked better! Its back to producing its natural amount of oils. Its shinier, softer, lighter, and even got its curl back. I couldn’t be happier about it.
2. I’m saving so much money. Baking soda and Apple Cider Vinegar is cheap. You can buy them in bulk, and it will last you for years.
3. its good for the environment. You use the same bottles over and over again and your not washing harsh chemicals down the drain.
So there you have it. Preaching the gospel of “no-poo” (I’m going to come up with a new name for this.)
